New Yorkers have a right to know how their tax dollars are spent. Open Book New York is a project by the Office of the State Comptroller that gives you unprecedented access to learn how State and local governments are spending your money.
Easy-to-use online search tools enable you to find detailed financial information for 3,100 local governments and 94 State agencies and public authorities. Users can also search more than 60,000 State contracts, and see how federal stimulus money is being spent in New York.
First launched in June 2008, Open Book New York is designed for ordinary New Yorkers, as well as experienced government insiders and researchers. The site contains glossaries that define all key terms and other search tools to help the user find answers quickly. The data can be loaded as a PDF file or an Excel spreadsheet.
And there is more to come down the road. My office is working hard to make sure taxpayers get the best value for their tax dollars, and that businesses have a level playing field to compete for opportunities.
Now more than ever, every dime counts. The more New Yorkers know, the more efficient their government will be.
Sincerely,
Thomas P. DiNapoli
State Comptroller
